Acids and Bases

    An acid is a material that can release a proton or a hydrogen ion. A base is a material that can donate a hydroxide ion. The proteins in a horn have a PH level of 7.4. This includes keratin (which is the glossy coating on the horn), scleroproteins, and globular proteins.
